The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office finished the investigation and sent to court a case started against the director of an Anenii Noi sports school and a member of the Sports Press Association. The persons are accused of asking money for fixing a football game and face up to seven years in jail, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, in July the two tried to influence the result of a European Championship match between the women’s Under 17 teams of Moldova and Latvia that was to be played on August 4.

The accused persons proposed the Moldovan squad’s coach to organize a defeat to the opponents at a difference of two goals. They offered her US$8,000 for this. The two didn’t manage to transmit the money as they were arrested by prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center.

During the investigation, the director of the sports school reached a guilt admission agreement with the prosecutors, while the sports journalist accepted his blame only partially.
