Mobile intervention teams for assisting persons with disabilities were constituted in five districts located on both banks of the Nistru. In a public event on September 26, the EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko and Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Stela Grigoras handed over the keys of five new vehicles intended for the mobile teams to the local authorities, IPN reports.
The project, which is financed by the European Union, envisions the development of six new services – five mobile teams and a day center – designed for persons with disabilities from the districts of Causeni, Stefan Voda, Slobozia and Tiraspol and from ATU Gagauzia.
According to Stela Grigoras, ten mobile teams for assisting persons with disabilities have been created with EU support during the past five years. These services center on the improvement of the quality of life of persons with disabilities through counseling, recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation services.
“We hope that by giving new vehicles to mobile teams that provide social services for persons with disabilities and their families, we create better working conditions for their activities and this will lead to enhanced social services offered to those who need them,” said Ambassador Peter Michalko.
Ludmila Malcoci, executive director of Keystone Moldova, which is the project’s partner, said the initiative encourages the transfer of knowledge and experience in developing social services for persons with disabilities between representatives of communities from both banks of the Nistru, the final goal being to establish interhuman relations and to build confidence.
The total cost of the project is of about €560,000. 80% is the EU’s contribution, while 20% represents the contribution of the implementation partners and IM Swedish Development Partner.
The mobile team is a service to offer homecare social assistance to persons with disabilities and their families in isolated communities with limited access to specialized services.
