The discussions on the so-called Third Basket concerning political, institutional and security issues, held within the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks, continue to be blocked by Moscow and Tiraspol, which consider that time hasn’t come yet, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.
“The key goal of the negotiation process is to politically settle the conflict, but those from Moscow and Tiraspol consider that time hasn’t yet come, that we must solve the technical problems first and then shift to the political ones. This view does not correspond to the view of Moldova’s delegation and of most of the participants involved as mediators or observers,” stated Eugen Carpov.
He welcomed the Moldovan Parliament’s statement by which the Transnistrian leaders are invited to discussions centering on the implementation of the DCFTA Agreement with the EU. According to him, the given statement presents a very clear position of the government coalition. “The statement is like an open hand given to those from Tiraspol, calling on them to go together on the path that will bring economic, social and political benefits to every citizens of Moldova. We are convinced that the implementation of the DCFTA Agreement will have beneficial effects on the business environment on both sides of the Nistru River,” said Eugen Carpov.
He noted that he wants the dialogue partners from Tiraspol to leave aside the intentions that have nothing in common with the realities and to agree to hold pragmatic, constructive discussions on aspects that are really important.
