The first maritime cargo ship will arrive at the Giurgiulesti Free International Port on November 28. It will sail weekly to Marport, Istanbul and will provide services for the resident companies of the Giurgiulesti Port and for the exporters and importers operating in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Economy.
“We welcome the coming to Giurgiulesti of manufacturing companies. The area of 25 km of the port is inhabited by about 100,000 people. Our goals to create new workplaces and to launch the production of goods for export coincide here,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar.
Thomas Moser, president of the Administration Board of Danube Logistics that operates the port, expressed his confidence that the Moldovan-Turkish commercial relations are rather intense for this route to be efficient and the long-distance maritime transport operations through the Turkish port will be stimulated.
“As many as 375,000 tonnes of goods were transshipped in 2010 through the port. We expect that this figure will increase significantly the next years. Our successes are also due to the Ministry of Economy, which supported the construction of the Giurgiulesti Free International Port at all the stages,” said Thomas Moser.
He also said that the potential residents that want to work in the industrial area of the Giurgiulesti Free International Port may benefit from lower costs on the transportation of raw material and exported finished products by sea.
