The nursing home for labor and war veterans in Tiraspol town now has 26 dwellers. They benefit from rather good conditions: clean rooms, food, medical care and, the most important, communication. But the number of beneficiaries cannot be raised owing to a shortage of personnel. The home’s manager Galina Zenin has told Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol that the major problem is the low salaries paid to the institution’s employees. “The salaries should be increased as the work is responsible and very difficult,” she said. The care home is intended for solitary elderly persons. If they observe the rules of conduct, the given persons can be maintained for life. Those who have close relatives sign a contract and pay a certain fee, Galina Zenin said. The care home can accommodate 75 persons, but it is now only one-third filled. Fifteen of the 26 persons pay for the services provided by the care home. Thirty-six social workers look after over 300 elderly persons at home in the Transnistrian towns of Tiraspol and Dnestrovsk.
