Cardiovascular diseases are continuing to be the leading cause of death (53.9 percent) among adults in the municipality of Chisinau, followed by malignant tumors on the second place (19.8 percent), and traumas and intoxications on the third (7.7 percent), Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Chisinau Health Department. The morbidity rate of cardiovascular diseases rose in 2009. As a result, the rate of emergency admissions from cardiovascular diseases rose from 18 percent in 2008 to 20.4 percent in 2009. Alarming is, Chisinau doctors say, the continuously increasing incidence of complications associated with cardiovascular diseases, like brain strokes, which rose from 1,652 cases in 2005 to 2,107 cases in 2009. The incidence of strokes among economically active people is also increasingly rising. The number of heart attacks dropped to 396 from 471 in 2005, yet rose compared to 390 cases in 2008. The incidence of cardiovascular diseases in Chisinau in 2009 was 1,465.9 cases per 100,000 population.
