The Chisinau-based software developing company Ritlabs SRL is announcing the release of its popular email client The Bat! version 7. The new version introduces a feature to keep the address book contacts up-to-date, IPN has learned from a press release issued by the company.

Ritlabs SRL says the updated version will help users keep their address books always up-to-date. The CardDAV technology allows syncing The Bat!’s address book contacts with Google and iCloud contacts as well as with other servers that support this protocol. All the changes that a user makes in his address book in The Bat! are sent to the server, and the server syncs contacts across other devices.

Maxim Masiutin, CEO of Ritlabs SRL, explains the advantages of the new feature. "I find address book synchronization especially useful nowadays, when people manage their address books from different devices. For example, a user can add a new Google contact using his smartphone or tablet, and it will appear in The Bat!’ address book as well. Thus, all contacts are maintained in unison and there is no need to spend time editing the same address book across different devices,” said Maxim Masiutin.

The Bat! v7 features the EWS protocol to access Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and later versions. Users need no additional programs or plugins as in the case with MAPI. To set up a new account users only have to input their name, email address and password, select the EWS option, and The Bat! will then retrieve the needed settings from the server in case that service had not been disabled by the administrator. The Bat! downloads not only emails, but other Exchange items as well, such as calendar events, contacts, tasks and notes, and stores them in local folders which makes it possible to access them offline.

The new mail protocol allows managing contacts from different sources. If a user is connected to social media in Outlook (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn), The Bat! also displays folders with all social network contacts. Each Contact item has a personal business card attached, a picture and any other attachments assigned to the contact. Moreover, The Bat! creates a separate address book for each EWS account and automatically imports contacts into it once downloaded.

The Bat! can also handle Exchange reminders to keep users informed about the important events, tasks and appointments. If a user receives an appointment, a message or a task with a reminder, The Bat! creates a task in its Scheduler and reminds about this message, event or task at the specified time.
