The Carabineer Troops intend to extend the staff. Currently, there are 70 vacancies in these internal troops subordinated to the Ministry of the Interior. A number of 280 new posts will be created there this year within the reformation process, given that the military service until the end of 2016 will gradually become contract-based. The information was provided to IPN following an inquiry made to the Carabineer Troops.
To be enrolled for military service by contract, the person must be citizen of Moldova without the nationality of another state, be aged between 18 and 35 and have at least secondary education, the vocational education or higher education being an advantage. The person must also have military training (military department or reduced military service) and must not have a criminal record, be physically fit and have an athletic form (at least 1.75m for men and 1.65 m for women), and know the official language, knowledge of foreign languages being an advantage.
The women and such specialists as psychologists, doctors, medical workers, drivers, cooks and mechanics are encouraged to apply for military service by contract.
The Carabineer Troops employees working on contract can retire after 25 years of military service. These have the right to continue the studies at higher and post-university education institutions or to choose other forms of professional training in Moldova and abroad. Those who want to obtain higher education can be enrolled at the Military Academy “Stefan cel Mare”. Depending on the length of service, they have the right to annual leave of 35 to 45 calendar days.
The carabineers are also entitled to free treatment and medical assistance and to bonuses if they consciously fulfill their duties. The beginner’s salary is 4,400 lei. The carabineers are given military uniform and equipment. If they do not have a place to stay in the settlement where the military unity is based, they are provided with dwellings by the state.
