On the first day of the implementation of the new rules for issuing the driver’s license, 5 of the 36 candidates who sat the theory driving test at the examination center in Soroca, which was visited by ICT Minister Pavel Filip on this occasion, passed it. The examination office was recently renovated and has an examination hall with glass walls, video/audio equipment and a model training ground, IPN has learned from the ICT Ministry.

Pavel Filip said that the goal of the reform is to root out corruption in the field by liquidating the bribing opportunities. In this respect, there was reviewed the territorial service principle. Every person can now take the exam in any office of the country. In order to ensure stricter supervision, the number of examination sections was reduced from 36 to 17. All the offices and cars for the practice test were outfitted with audio/video monitoring systems.

“We will monitor what happens at the exams in different districts online from the central office in Chisinau. The recordings are stored in a special database and those who will challenge the exam results will be able to see them,” said the minister. The exams will be monitored by 12 inspectors on the spot.

More than 80,000 driver’s licenses are issued in Moldova annually. There are over 1 million persons qualified to drive in the country.
