Candidates registered for mayor or councillor positions must suspend their activity

Candidates registered for the position of mayor or local councillor must suspend their activity in the held position, IPN reports with reference to a press release of the Central Election Commission.

From the moment of registering as electoral competitors, the activity of deputy prime ministers, ministers and deputy ministers, ex officio members of the Government, leaders of the central public authorities, chairmen and vice-chairmen of districts, mayors and deputy mayors, but also praetors and vice-praetors is suspended.

So far, six candidates for Chisinau have been registered: Ion Ceban, who holds the position of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament from the PSRM, Andrei Donică from "Speranța- Надежда" Movement, civic activist, Teodor Cârnaț from "People's Will" Party, former member of the CSM, Valeri Klimenco from Șor Party, founder of the party, Valeriu Munteanu from Save Bessarabia Union, former MP and minister of environment, as well as activist Victor Chironda from New Force Party. Nine other candidates are waiting to be registered.

September 19 is the last day for submitting the candidates' files for the position of local councillor or the position of mayor in the general local elections of October 20, 2019.
