The candidates for mayor of Chisinau of the Party of Socialists, the People’s Party and the Russian-Slavic Party promise that if they are elected mayor, they will solve a series of problems faced in the education sector. They suggest surveying the feeding of children in kindergartens, increasing salaries of education system employees and repairing education institutions. The issues were raised in the electoral debates held on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

The candidate of the People’s Party Maxim Braila said that if he is elected mayor, he will institute a system of strict control over the food given to children in kindergartens. “We will engage the public. I will personally go to inspect the facilities were food is prepared for children during working hours and outside them. Regrettably, most of those who held administrative posts at the City Hall forgot about what is the most important - the humans,” he stated.

Alexandru Matu of the Russian-Slavic Party said the feeding of children is not monitored at the level of the local public administration. “There should be very strict rules as to the feeding of children. New tender contests should be held and the suppliers should be monitored. The Ministry of Education should also become involved in this process. The solution is very simple,” he stated, adding that those who do not do their job should be held accountable.

The Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban said the salaries of educator assistants and medical assistants in kindergartens are very low. “This is genocide of persons who look after our children. They have to think how to get to work and from what resources they can buy a schoolbag for their children. We should mandatorily intervene here,” he noted, adding that funds for repairing the institutions exist in the local budget.
