The constitution of the electoral districts for the June 14 local elections cannot start earlier than 55 days before the election date, while the electoral bodies are set up not earlier than 50 days before the elections. Thus, the Central Election Commission (CEC) will create the electoral bodies by April 26. During another three-four days, the electoral bodies will choose their administration. Afterward, it will be announced when the candidates will start to be registered, CEC secretary Andrei Volentir stated for IPN.

Andrei Volentir said that the electoral period starts next week and the CEC will begin to draw up the calendar plan. In the local elections, the candidate registration period and other procedures are closely related to the creation of constituencies. “In the parliamentary elections, we have only one constituency, while in the local elections we set up district constituencies where the district council is elected. Later, there are created the local village, town or municipal constituencies where the local councilors and mayors are elected. There will be 32 district constituencies, plus two municipal constituencies and 898 local constituencies, of the first level,” he stated.

The candidates for the posts of local councilors and mayors will be registered by the local electoral councils, while those for the post of district councilor – by the district electoral councils. Until the political parties do not register their candidates, they cannot enter the election campaign.
