The Republic of Moldova can develop only alongside Romania, said Corneliu Radauta, the top candidate of Romania’s Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) for the post of diaspora senator. In a news conference at IPN, he said that the state in which Moldova is now is simply scaring compared with that of Romania

“This country needs concrete development measures and support for the important pillars of the economy. Together with my party mates, we will implement rural development programs. Bessarabia is an agrarian country. It is a country that needs this support,” stated Corneliu Radauta.

According to the candidate, rural development projects can be initiated at bilateral meetings between Romanian and Moldovan officials, by setting priorities and implementation steps and by allocating resources for these projects, on the part of the Romanian Government.

As to the referendum on the union of Moldova and Romania planned for 2018, Corneliu Radauta said this is a democratic instrument. “I support the holding of this referendum, but this should take place on one condition – the citizens of Moldova must be informed correctly. I want to specify this. I’m convinced that if the people of the Republic of Moldova are correctly informed, they will understand the benefits of the union with Romania and of the European integration” stated the candidate.

He also said that he wants a lot Moldova to integrate into the EU through Romania, but, for this to happen the people must be informed about the benefits.

“Being a senator on behalf of ALDE, which, together with its political partner in Romania will have a majority of seats in the Parliament of Romania and will govern Romania during the next four years, I will have the possibility and power to implement the projects I undertook for this term and will definitely be that person who powerfully contributes to the maintaining of the pro-European and pro-Romanian course of Bessarabia,” said the candidate for diaspora senator, calling upon all the Bessarabians with Romanian nationality to vote the candidate who is under No. 4 on the ballot this Sunday, December 11.
