Candidate for deputy on People’s Assembly of Gagauzia arrested

A candidate for the post of deputy on the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia was placed under arrested for 72 hours initially. This is Nicolai Raia, 46. According to the police, on October 22 Raia was charged with causing of considerable damage to the national public budget and two weeks later was put on the wanted list, IPN reports.

The man was arrested in Comrat town. He disappeared immediately after a criminal case was started against him.

Nicolai Raia faces a fine of 100,000 to 250,000 lei or up to six years in jail and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
