In Chisinau was launched a campaign on promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Starting October 3 to December 15, at the TV and radio stations there will be broadcasted advertisements regarding the acknowledgement by the wide public of the importance of social involvement of each citizen in implementing development objectives of the country.
These advertisements are only a part of MDG’s promotion in Moldova, which is organized under the auspices of the Government. Together with the audio and video advertisements, the campaign will also include billboards and city-lights, trainings for journalists, conferences and debates. These components will be launched in the second part of the campaign, in October.
All the informational materials were made with the support of UN Office in Moldova, which offers technical assistance to the Government by implementing and monitoring the Millennium Development Goals.
PM Vasile Tarlev, who was present at the campaign’s launching, expressed his optimism regarding the implementation of the “noble goals” included in MDG. According to him, first of all, it is necessary that the society acknowledges the necessity of involving the implementation of the objectives “as active participants, not as spectators”.
In 2000, Moldova signed in New York the UN Millennium Declaration. This document expresses the engagement of the international community regarding the fundamental values of the humanity and emphasizes the importance of solving serious problems related to strengthening peace, respecting human rights, ensuring sustainable development and protection of the environment.
During 2000-2015, the Government of the Republic of Moldova must carry out 8 Millennium Development objectives which would ensure human development in Moldova by 2015. These objectives are: eradicating severe poverty and hunger, providing access to gymnasium education, promoting gender equality; reducing death rate among children, improving health of mothers, combating HIV/SIDA and tuberculosis, ensuring environmental sustainability, creating global partnerships for development.
