The state of the Camenca river is very poor because the locals use the water for filling ponds, Ioana Bobana, Head of the Association of Women for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, told Info-Prim Neo. She has recently went of a ecologic expedition along this river.
“Regrettably, I see that authorities become increasingly indifferent towards natural monuments in their communities and don’t care about their protection. The youth don’t know anything about the local natural monuments, or about their protection”, she said.
According to Ioana Bobana, the ecological expedition organized by the association involved local youth from the villages located along the Camenca river. They helped cleaning a portion of the river and improved their environmental awareness. Also, they visited natural monuments in their village, learned about their importance and brainstormed about ways to protect them.
“The Association chose the Camenca river because of the many monuments in its valley. By visiting it, we discovered that people started extracting sand from One Hundred Hills monument and are destroying it. Fortunately, we found Padurea Domneasca, Grota Duruitoarea and Grota Butesti to be ok”, said Bobana.
A forum of mayors and local councilors from the valley of the Camenca river, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, of the “Apele Moldovei” agency and of environmental NGO’s is scheduled for September. Its goal is to find solutions for repairing the ecological state of the river.
The action is part of the project “Taking care of small rivers with their beneficiaries”, financed from the National Ecologic Fund.
