The Board of the Local Authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova (CALRRM) has made approaches to obtain the status of legal personality. The necessary documents were already submitted to the Government’s secretariat general by the Association of Communes of Romania and the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting adevărul.ro.

According to the quoted source, in 2013, the Association of Communes of Romania and the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova created the Board of the Local Authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova (CALRRM) and the cooperation between the two entities has been very good and resulted in a series of twinning agreements between settlements of the two countries.

The CALRRM is an entity without legal personality and the Association of Communes of Romania has recently launched the procedure for obtaining such a status in a move to strengthen the ties between the two entities.

Executive president of the Association of Communes of Romania Sergiu Ţâra, who is also the president of the National Integrity Council, has told Adevărul that they want to help obtain recognition in the EU and to become an associate member and to also ensure an exchange of knowledge of good practices between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

He noted that their Association established a partnership with the Association of Municipalities of Romania, centering on the training of Romanian local authorities in such areas as ethics, transparency, incompatibilities and conflicts of interests. There were instructed 15 trainers who, for their part, will instruct 2,000 representatives from 1,000 communes and 400 municipalities of Romania. They will also have courses with local authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

The team of trainers includes the representative of Moldova’s Bălți municipality that for four consecutive times obtained the title of “Most transparent settlement in the Republic of Moldova”. This way, the Board of the Local Authorities of Romania tries to recompense mayor of Bălți Renato Usatîi and other representatives of the local authorities of Moldova for this.

The cooperation between the Association of Communes of Romania and the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova has lasted since 2013 and the two bodies have meetings in Romania or in the Republic of Moldova every two years. This year, the general assembly of the CALRRM will be held in Sibiu.
