Representatives of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM) are interested in achieving a strategic objective – ecological waste recycling in the country’s localities. A Korean ecological waste recycling technology was discussed with a delegation from Seoul.
“The problem of waste dumps is serious, topical and painful in our country. It has been mostly ignored by the authorities. Large investments are needed in this sector. The Korean delegation presented a new technology that is based on burning at high temperatures, without having a negative impact on the environment, with more filtering possibilities,” CALM executive director Viorel Furdui stated for IPN.
The technology enables to produce electricity and heat and to generate gas that can be used by consumers. “It is highly efficient and allows for great flexibility for adjusting to different situations. Burning equipment can be installed in small and large localities, with different capacities,” said Viorel Furdui.
Among the questions that appeared during the discussion was the adjustment of Moldova’s legislation to the possibility of implementing the Korean method. The Korean side can assume the investment, but is interested in the tariff at which they can sell the energy obtained by burning waste.
“These are similar Japanese, German and other technologies, but the Korean technology has several elements we consider advantageous. First of all, it comes to the flexibility and adaptability of their equipment. This can be used even at small waste dumps in villages. We must toughly examine this method. There are positive aspects, but also unclear aspects as regards the costs that will be incurred by the locality where the technology will be implemented and also technical, legislative and normative ambiguities,” said Viorel Furdui.
South Korea is one of the countries that achieved special results in waste management. The waste recycling method presented by the South-Korean delegation is an alternative to the traditional technology and enables to avoid the pollution of the environment. The delegation invited Moldovan representatives to visit Human & Science Co LTD in Seoul to see how this method works.
