The owner who leased out his apartment to a female employee of the Embassy of Romania in Moldova and where a fire occurred this April said that they could not reach a consensus with the lessee or with the Embassy of Romania, which signed the lease. In this connection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) is asked to intervene.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, the owner of the apartment Corneliu Celnakov, the injured party, said the fire in the apartment located at 41/1 Mihai Eminescu St occurred on April 1 this year. Firefighters determined that the fire happened in the sleeping room owing to a laptop left on the bed. A number of out-of-court examinations were carried out so as to hasten the procedures. The damage was assessed at €800,000-900,000. The apartment was 98% destroyed. The stair was also damaged and eight neighbors were affected. The glass windows in the apartments of some of these broke.

Under the contract, the conflict was to be mediated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, but nothing was done.

Lawyer Andrei Matsko noted the lease signed by Chelnakov family and the Embassy of Romania says that if disputes or misunderstandings appear, these should be solved by amicable ways through the agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. This way, approaches were made to the Embassy and the MFAEI, but these have been neglected.

According to the lawyer, the police were notified of the fire and legal action was taken. A technical judicial examination was ordered. “Specialists established that the fire that damaged 98% of the apartment occurred through the blame of the lessee or the person who lived there as this left the laptop connected to the power supply,” stated Andrei Matsko.
