The year 2025 will have 365 days, 252 of which will be working days and 113 days off on weekends and public holidays. Of the 13 national holidays set by the Labor Code, only nine will be during the working week, giving Moldovans nine additional days of rest, IPN reports.

According to the Labor Code, the Republic of Moldova has the following holidays with fixed days off for all state employees:

January 1 - New Year's Eve (Wednesday);
January 7 and 8 - The Nativity of Jesus Christ (old-style Christmas, Wednesday and Thursday);
March 8 - International Women's Day (Saturday);
May 1 - International Workers' Solidarity Day (Thursday);
May 9 - Europe Day and Day of Remembrance of Fallen Heroes (Friday);
June 1 - International Children's Day (Sunday)
August 27 - Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova (Wednesday);
August 31 - Romanian Language Day (Sunday);
December 25 - Christmas New Style (Thursday).

Holidays with changing dates:

April 20 - First Easter (Sunday);
April 21 - Easter Monday (Monday);
April 28 - Easter (Monday).

In addition to the days off stipulated by the Labor Code, the holiday calendar also includes feast days, which are non-working days for employees in the localities concerned. Chisinau celebrates its feast day on October 14, Cahulul - on November 21. Balti's feast day is on May 22 and Comrat's on August 20.

Employees called to work on public holidays are entitled to double pay, regardless of whether they are paid on an hourly, daily or monthly basis. Under certain conditions, the employer may offer a day off in lieu of the day worked, without additional remuneration.

Employees under the age of 18, pregnant women, people with severe disabilities, parents with young or disabled children - unless they have a written agreement - cannot be obliged to work on public holidays, nor are those on leave or with a suspended employment contract on the holiday date obliged to make up these days.
