“The situation in the flood-hit districts of Cahul, Ungheni and Hancesti remains difficult, but the local public authorities do not take the appropriate steps. The mayors do not intervene, while the residents are not mobilized and play the role of spectators,” the head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Mihai Harabagiu said in a meeting called by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. 250 persons remained in Cotul Morii village of Hancesti district and must be evacuated. The water advances quickly. About 60 houses have been flooded there. There are persons who do not want to leave. 170 houses were inundated in Nemteni, Hancesti, and another 15 in Macaresti, Ungheni. Prime Minister Vlad Filat instructed Minister of the Interior Victor Catan to mobilize the necessary forces and shelter all the residents of Cotul Morii. Ion Lupu, the head of Moldova's Water Agency, said the flow capacity in the accumulation lake Costesti-Stanca decreased from 800 to 650 cubic metes per second. “Several villages in Southern Moldova might be flooded the next days,” Ion Lupu said. Among these are Copanca, in Causeni, and Talmaza, in Stefan-Voda. The State Hydrometeorology Service forecast heavy rain in Ukraine's Carpathians for tomorrow. More floods are expected. The next seven days, there will be rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in parts of Moldova.
