The case against a lawyer from Cahul who is accused of influence peddling was sent to court by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. The case was started after the lawyer was caught taking €1,000 bribe from the husband of a prosecuted woman at the start of this April.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the lawyer asked and received money for influencing prosecutors dealing with the case not to appeal the ordinary court’s judgment to acquit the woman. Earlier, the lawyer received €2,000 from the couple that was investigated for cultivating drug containing plants for making so that the criminal case didn’t reach the court.
The lawyer admitted his guilt and faces at most six years in jail or a fine of up to 200,000 lei for influence peddling.
The lawyer is also investigated for swindle and falsification of public documents. Several days ago, he was placed in remand detention for 30 days. He was charged with the implementation of a scheme to dispossess an inhabitant of Cahul of apartment in concert with other persons.
