The students of the Chisinau-based Lyceum “Vasile Vasilache” will eat at a renovated cafeteria that meets the new hygienic standards. The cafeteria was inaugurated by the lyceum’s administration today, September 17, IPN reports.

Over 8 million lei was spent on reconstructing the building that houses the cafeteria and on purchasing the necessary equipment. The money was allocated by the Chisinau City Hall. “The whole cafeteria was renovated, starting with the roof and walls and ending with the furniture. The expected result was achieved after several years. We want to have more such cafeterias created for the children’s benefit,” said the head of the Chisinau Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb.

The cafeteria hadn’t been repaired for many years. “The previous eatery was housed by an old workshop of the vocational school. We also had an eatery near the gates, which dated from 1989. It was in a very bad state. The period was difficult, but we managed to find money to reconstruct it,” said the lyceum’s principal Vera Balanel.

The lyceum is attended by 689 children. They can all eat at the new cafeteria. The first-fourth graders, the children from socially deprived families and 20% of the children involved in afterschool activities will eat free of charge.

“We have waited for the eatery to be renovated for a long time. The current cafeteria is large, nice, spacious and bright. I would say that it was outfitted in a European style,” said the head of the Parents Committee Tamara Chihiac.

There are cafeterias like Swedish buffets in 70% of the education institutions in Chisinau.
