The National Anticorruption Center created a specialized unit that will focus on the fight against high-level corruption and on cases when considerable damage is caused to the public interests, the Center’s director Viorel Chetraru said after the June 8 field meeting of the Cabinet, which was held at the Center, IPN reports.

Viorel Chetraru stated that the new team will deal with the investigation of major cases of corruption. A task of the investigators will be to identity the goods or assets obtained illegally by public functionaries. “It is a new activity that became possible after a number of internal restrictions, including legal ones, were eliminated as these prevented the performance of such activities,” he stated.

After the meeting, when asked by journalists about the investigation launched by the Prosecutor General’s Office into his education, Prime Minister Ghiril Gaburici said he will go to answer all the questions if he receives an official invitation. He voiced hope that the investigation bodies will react as quickly in the case of stealing from banks as in the case of his diplomas.

Asked why he seeks the dismissal of the administration of the National Bank, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Commission for Financial Markets, Chiril Gaburici said things stand bad not at the banks about which a lot is speculated, but at other banks and problems are also faced in the car insurance sector. “The state must swiftly take steps, but the Government’s instruments are limited. That’s why these steps must be taken by the National Bank, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Bureau of Motor Insurers, but these do not react,” stated the Premier.

As to his possible resignation if he is not supported by the head of state and Parliament in obtaining the dismissal of the managers of the National Bank, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Commission for Financial Markets, Chiril Gaburici said he accepted the post of Premier because he thinks he can change things if he has access to the necessary instruments. If he is not offered this possibility, he can any time leave, noting his life was much more beautiful before becoming Prime Minister.
