The Cabinet approved the termination of three agreements signed by the Republic of Moldova on the platform of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). These refer to small entrepreneurship, the educational sector and border guard troops, IPN reports.

Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Dumitru Alaiba said the agreement on small entrepreneurship runs counter to the Republic of Moldova’s European integration commitments and objectives.

As to the agreement of cooperation on the formation of the common educational space in the CIS, the participation in CIS projects or commitments becomes irrelevant and does not bring value added to the national policies on education now that Moldova established the European integration as its foreign policy priority. Also, the Ministry of Education and Research the past decade hadn’t been involved in the implementation of this agreement.

As regards the agreement on privileged delivery of special equipment and materials to the border guard troops of the CIS member states, the given treaty that was signed in 1994 reflects the realities and particularities of that period. As Moldova’s state border no longer neighbors the borders of CIS member states, the country’s participation in the activities staged under the aegis of the CIS to ensure border security is limited in character.

In May, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu announced the decision to initiate the procedure for withdrawing from the agreement on the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
