A new mechanism for billing renewable energy will be applied as from January 1, 2024. A bill approved by the Cabinets allows for the transition from net metering to net billing, IPN reports.
The authorities said the transition from net metering to net billing is a step needed for making the current renewable energy system more balanced and orderly and nondiscriminatory, to which more citizens would have access.
The Ministry of Energy ascertained that many consumers oversize the installed power, which should be equal to the consumption of the dwelling or office for a one-year period. This way, they deprive other consumers of the possibility of producing green energy for own consumption. The goal of the state support mechanism is not to make profit by supplying the energy surplus into the network, but to cover the own consumption, noted the institution.
The Republic of Moldova aims to ensure that not less than 30% of the consumed electricity is produced from renewable sources until 2030, up from the current figure of 6%.
