Cabinet approves six documents as part of Visa Liberalization Action Plan

The Moldovan Government on Wednesday, June 22, approved 6 proposed legislative and normative documents which are part of the Action Plan on visa liberalization with the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. The list includes the draft Law on State Borders which sets out the rules for border control and surveillance as well as border crossing requirements. This will be backed by a Plan on Border Infrastructure Development, under which 6 new border guard posts will be built and 4 other will be fully repaired, and all border facilities will be provided with gas, water and electricity. The Government also approved the draft Law on Organized Crime Prevention and Combating, with a separate chapter being dedicated to international cooperation in the area. This will be backed by a National Strategy against organized crime covering the period 2011-2016. To intensify efforts against the circulation of narcotic and psychotropic substances, the Government approved the creation of a National Anti-Drug Commission, which will coordinate governmental actions in the area. The sixth approved document was the draft Law on Special Destination Arms and Munitions, which sets out the rules for non-military devices and explosives for civilian use. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Visa Liberalization Action Plan provided the adoption of a total of 39 documents, 7 of which have already been enacted by Parliament, another one has been adopted in first reading, and 6 have received the Government's approval to be subsequently considered by the legislature; 8 other documents are awaiting the executive's approval. Vlad Filat said that Moldova was meeting the time frame of the Plan. However, he urged increased speediness in order to allow the Moldovan government to proceed to the second stage of the Plan. In particular, the prime minister instructed the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption to speed up the provision of its anti-corruption expertise to the considered documents.
