The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the extension of the state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova for 60 more days as from June 4. The decision was taken at the suggestion of the Commission for Exceptional Situations. The document is to be presented to Parliament for adoption, IPN reports.

According to the Government, the state of emergency needs to be extended given Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and the security risks to which the Republic of Moldova is exposed.

Also, given the energy, hybrid, social and security challenges generated by the current regional context, the authorities need to maintain instruments that enable to take decisions swiftly and efficiently.

The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova was declared first on February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, and has been prolonged repeatedly since then.
