The Cabinet approved a program of action for dealing with the problems faced by the veterans of the Afghanistan war. On April 16, Prime Minister Pavel Filip had a meeting with leaders of the given veterans, IPN reports.

After the meeting, the Premier said that they approved a program of activities called “Memory, Honor. Respect”. This includes a series of activities that range from the provision of assistance to the patriotic education of the young people. The official noted that the problems can be solved swiftly by concerted efforts.

Chairman of the Union of Afghanistan War Veterans Mihail Mocanu said the meeting involved the leaders of local veterans organizations who discussed their problems and methods of solving them. “We expressed our readiness to find solutions together with the Government. We are ready to support the implementation of governmental programs and are convinced that the problems made public today can be solved. My colleagues expect that concrete actions will be taken after today’s discussion,” he stated.

The war in Afghanistan involved about 13,000 Moldovan soldiers. Approximately 300 of them were killed in battle.
