By rejecting the resolution on the blocking of the macro-financial assistance intended for the Republic of Moldova, the European Parliament chose the lesser evil, Liberal MP Lilian Carp stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
At the same time, in an electoral year the EU cannot become involved in events that could influence the situation in Moldova, noted the MP. “Additional pressure on the current government would mean the possibility of strengthening more the pro-Russian forces. The European Union does not want this. It wants a balance where it could have partners,” said Lilian Carp.
Editorialist Nicolae Negru said the European Parliament’s decision was taken in connection with the organization of the May 2 meeting of the Moldova - EU Association Council and in the context of the May 20 local elections. “We cannot ignore the fact that this resolution was proposed by the European People’s Party that has particular relations, contacts with Moldovan political forces that are in opposition. If we consider these three points, we can see what is happening in reality,” he stated.
Spokesman for the Democratic Party Vitalie Gamurari said that by rejecting the resolution, the European Parliament showed support for Moldova’s European course.
On April 18, the European Parliament rejected the resolution that proposed blocking the macro-financial assistance for the Republic of Moldova submitted by the European People’s Party.
