There is a shortage of acacia honey and the buyers look for other types of honey, even from last year. “If the weather is favorable and constant the next period, the producers could obtain larger volumes of lime tree honey,” Andrei Zagareanu, president of the Association of Beekeepers of Moldova “Apis-Mellifera”, has told Info-Prim Neo.
“This year, we have the same situation as last year. The drought is severe and the production volume is low. We intend to maintain the price of 60 lei per kilogram of honey. But it will depend on the costs and quantities of honey produced,” Zagareanu said.
“We ask the producers to fulfill the requirements. The analysis of honey carried out last autumn showed that the honey is of a good quality,” the president of the Association of Beekeepers added. Last year, the producers could not export honey to the EU owing to the residues that remained in the honey after treating the bees.
Andrei Zagareanu also said that there are no export destinations and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry does not take steps to remedy the situation.
The Moldovan population consumes about one third of the about 2,000 tonnes of honey produced in the country every year.
