The bust of Dumitru Matcovschi, installed in the Alley of the Classics of Romanian Literature in the "Stefan cel Mare si Sfant" Public Garden, will be inaugurated on Sunday, December 1st, IPN reports.
The work is created by sculptors Victor Macovei, Ruslan Tihonciuc and architect Victor Vieru. The team of artists was selected on the basis of an open municipal competition, says a press release of the City Hall.
The expenses for the realization of the concept and the installation of the bust (480 thousand lei) were covered from municipal budget sources.
The writer and academician Dumitru Matcovschi is a symbol of the National Revival Movement of the 1990s. He wrote over 50 volumes of poetry, prose and drama. He is the holder of the orders "Cultural Merit", "Steaua României" Commander and "Order of the Republic", the highest distinction in the Republic of Moldova. In 2009, at his 70 - year jubilee, Dumitru Matcovschi became "Honorary Citizen of Chisinau". The poet died in 2013.
