Bulgaria’s largest Black Sea resort “Sunny Beach” intends to hire 5000 workers from the Bulgarian minority in Moldova, Info-Prim-Neo informs, quoting the Sofia-based “Novinite” agency. The Bulgarian Association of Tourist Agencies announced Friday, February 23, that the Union of the Sunny Beach Proprietors was going to sign the contracts with its new workers by the end of February in Chisinau. The main objective of the Sunny Beach tour operators is to hire university students for summer internships at the Bulgarian resort, but unskilled labourers are also to be employed. According to representatives of the Sunny Beach Union, Bulgaria’s tourist business is ready to train its new employees, as it is no longer looking for cheap labour, but rather for skilled workers. The Bulgarian minority in Moldova is targeted as a source of labour because in this way there would be no language barrier for the proper communication between the employers and the employees. An international agreement between Bulgaria and Moldova, which would legalise the hiring of the Moldavian citizens, is currently being prepared. Hotel owners from Bulgaria’s seaside claim the labour shortage in the tourism industry is so great that many hotels and restaurants will remain closed in the coming summer.
