Buiucani district residents accept minibus fare of at most 4 lei

More than 200 inhabitants of Buiucani district took part in public debates centering on the minibus fares in the evening of June 6. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the proposal to increase the fare to 5 lei as the salaries and pensions are paltry. They are ready to pay 4 lei at the most, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The minibus drivers demand raising the fare from 3 lei to 5 lei. They presented all the data that justify this rise, but we want to see if the people are prepared to pay such a fare. It is for the first time in the municipality of Chisinau that the proposal to increase the fares is discussed with the people,” said the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that in the meeting with minibus drivers held on June 3, they agreed to organize public debates for the people to be able to state their opinions on the rise in the minibus fare. The final decision will be taken by the Municipal Council. “Not the fare is the main problem. The safety of the passengers is more important. It is hard to change things when there is poverty. But we better make these changes instead of visiting the relatives at the hospital or suffering because of the more often accidents involving minibuses,” said the mayor, stressing that the drivers must obey the traffic rules. The Chisinau Municipal Council is to consider a new minibus fare on June 14.
