Constructors in Moldova mark their professional holiday on the second Sunday of August, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At a festive meeting on this occasion, Pavel Caba, the chairman of the federation construction employers, stated it is important that the managers and employers in the sector make everything possible to keep their companies afloat, to identify possibilities of repaying the loans, of paying salaries and keeping their employees. In his opinion, the recovery of the sector could start the next spring the latest.
“We stay idle for days or work short hours, and it's a pity, because we have the willingness and potential to work. But we don't lose our hope, we will overcome this situation”, said Timofei Timohin, the representative of a construction concern.
Trade union leader Victor Talmaci also thinks the difficulties will be overcome. “The partnership established in the construction section back in 1993 – the collective Convention signed between the employers' organizations and the trade unions – contributed to the resolution of multiple problems of production and social nature and will further do this”.
Construction Minister Marcel Raducan said that although most of the construction companies reduced their operations and saw lower sales, not any of them went bankrupt. The Ministry negotiates with the banks the possibility to restructure some loans offered to constructors, but things move slowly, because the banks have their own problems.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said: “the construction sector is a locomotive of the Moldovan economy, and the Government will take the appropriate measures so that this locomotive can get out of the hangar and gather steam”.
Vlad Filat announced that a large, 300 million euro project for the construction of social housing will soon be launched, with an initial funding of 30 million euros to be offered by the European Investment Bank. The great amount of works will require the involvement of many constructors and manufacturers of construction materials.
