The district education divisions are interested in implementing the buffet-style service that has been used in the schools of Chisinau since 2012. On December 15, heads of district divisions and deputy district heads paid a fact-finding visit to a number of schools with such buffets, IPN reports.
Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said the buffet-style service is used in 58 primary and secondary education institutions in the capital city, which is practically at each second school. This practice helped to significantly reduce food waste, while the costs remained the same. The students are able to choose and eat what they like and how much they want.
The officials visited five education institutions in Chisinau with such a service and then took part in a workshop to exchange experience with the local public authorities.
The Chisinau Division’s deputy head Alexandru Fleas said it is planned to set up food-serving counters in all the education institutions of Chisinau were the eateries allow this. A sum of 360,000 lei will be allocated from the local budget next year for installing three more such counters.
This year, buffets-style eateries were opened at 11 schools in Chisinau, at a cost of 1 million lei.
