Some 41% of the families in Chisinau municipality project to spend more than 500 lei on the Easter meal. 30% intend to spend 500 to 1 000 lei. 18% of the households have an available budget of up to 2 000 lei for the Easter meal, while 7.6% earmarked 2,000 lei and more, shows an opinion poll carried out in the municipality of Chisinau by the company “Date Inteligente”.
The results of the survey were presented in a news conference at IPN on April 6. Veronica Ates, head of the company’s Research Department, said the budgets of the residents of Chisinau for Easter this year are lower than last year. The respondents said that this year they will put painted eggs, Easter cake and bread, salads, meat jelly, lamb, fruit and candies on the Easter table.
The Easter holidays are awaited in most of the families in Chisinau municipality. 96.3% of the respondents said they celebrate Easter and only 3.7% said they do not celebrate. Compared with last year, the number of those who observe Easter rose by 2%, said Mihai Bologan, executive director of “Date Inteligente”.
Asked if they fasted at least one day, almost 60% of those polled said they did, while 40% said they did not. None of those interviewed fasted throughout Lent.
For almost 38% of the population from Chisinau, Easter is an important feast, for 17.2% Easter is the Resurrection of Jesus, while for 12.8% said this is an occasion for family reunions. “Practically all the answers were positive. This shows that Easter is a holiday that unites people, strengthens confidence, reunites families, gives birth to hope and makes the people better,” stated Mihai Bologan.
Asked if they will go to church on Easter night, 62.4% of the surveyed inhabitants of Chisinau said they will go, while 25% said they will not go.
This year, fewer inhabitants of Chisinau said they will go to the cemetery on Low Sunday – 78.1%, as against almost 83% last year.
The poll was conducted between March 28 and April 2 and covered a sample of 761 persons from Chisinau city and eight suburban communities. A number of 28 operators discussed with the people.
