A number of 33,700 depositors of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank) born between 1948 and 1951 will receive about 31,600 million lei representing the sums indexed at the first stage. During August 20 - November 30, the Bank received 33,700 applications from the depositors born between 1948 and 1951. The Government this year did not plan to pay the indexed sums to these depositors, but this was possible because fewer depositors born before 1947 submitted applications for indexation than planned. The budget law for 2007 includes 85 million lei for paying indexations. The depositors born before 1947 inclusive, who submitted applications for indexation by July 31, 2007 will get 51.3 million lei in indexations. In addition, there will be allocated 3.6 million lei to the beneficiaries of indexation in 2003-2006 that did not receive the indexed sums in due time for different reasons. The depositors born before 1947 will be allocated 54.9 million lei or 64.6% of the sum planned in the budget for paying indexations. By December 1, 2007, the Ministry of Finance transferred 50.8 million lei for paying indexations to the Savings Bank. At the first stage, the depositors receive by 1,000 lei for the first 1,000 Soviet roubles. The rest of the sums will be indexed according to the ratio 1 leu: 2.5 roubles, but only after all the depositors that had accounts in Sberbank until 1992 take the first 1,000 rubles indexed. After the Moldovan leu was put into circulation on November 29, 1993 and the prices were liberalised, the population’s deposits decreased in value over 1,000 times.
