The Chisinau Municipal Council passed the municipality’s 2014 budget in the final reading. It provides for a total expenditure of over 2.693 billion lei. The deficit of 180 million lei is to be covered with money earned from the privatization of public property and with foreign loans.
The councilors initially expressed their indignation at the fact that the local taxes remained unchanged. According to them, they should have been reduced as last year they were increased exaggeratedly. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca replied that last year the taxes on trade were raised by only 10%. Only the taxes on casinos and gaming machines were increased significantly as the relevant economic entities avoided paying taxes, while the services provided by them are not very beneficial to the municipality.
The councilors proposed allocating 1 million lei for the Chisinau Dental Clinic and money for supporting the architectural monument “Saint Dumitru Church” and for extending trolleybus lines and repairing streets.
