The brother-in-law of former President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, who is accused of unjust enrichment and money laundering, was transferred from remand detention under house arrest by a decision of the Ciocana Court, IPN reports.

The judges examined the anticorruption prosecutor’s request to extend remand detention for a period of 30 days. In the same hearing, they examined the lawyer’s request to replace remand detention with a milder measure.

“Even if the anticorruption prosecutor provided new evidence that justifies the topicality of the risks that require holding the accomplice on remand, the judges ordered to replace remand detention with house arrest for a period of 30 days,” said the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutors consider the court’s decision is unfounded and intend to challenge it in the Chisinau Appeals Court within three days.
