The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) imposed a fine of 50,000 lei on RTR Moldova channel for not respecting the law known as the propaganda law.

Under a report presented in the February 26 meeting of the Council, RTR broadcast journalistic content of the Russian TV channel Russia 1 in its news bulletins, presenting this as foreign news and violating thus the new provisions of the Broadcasting Code, IPN reports.

The TV channel was monitored following a notification submitted by BCC member Olga Barbalata. As a result, it was established that the TV channel broadcast journalistic content identical to that transmitted by Russia 1. The bulletins included Russian political content that was presented in a positive context. This represented over 40% of the newscasts of RTR Moldova.

Under the changes made to the Broadcasting Code, the radio and TV stations in Moldova can transmit only news, feature, military and political programs that were produced in the EU, the U.S., Canada and the states that ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
