Broadcasting regulator grants new broadcast licenses

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) on April 21 issued licenses for broadcasting on 14 radio frequencies of the 28 put up for contest and on eight TV channels of the ten put up for contest, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sixteen of the 23 broadcasters that took part in the contest applied for radio frequencies, while seven for TV channels. “The BCC put ten channels up for contest, ten of which were asked for, and 28 radio frequencies, 16 of which were asked for. Nobody applied for the frequency of the FM subdivision network,” said head of the BCC’s Examination and Licensing Division Victor Pulbere. The available radio frequencies were for Balti, Edinet, Soroca, Ungheni, Hancesti, Telenesti, Causeni, Trifesti, Cimislia, Lozova, Mingir, Falesti, etc. The contest was announced on February 25, 2011. In the same meeting, the head of the BCC’s Monitoring Division Dinu Cecan said another three broadcasters – two radio stations and a TV channel – submitted statements on the covering of the campaign for the June 5 local elections. As many as 78 broadcasters – 43 TV channels and 35 radio stations – have lodged such statements by April 19.
