Six TV channels were warned publicly by the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) for impartially covering the election campaign prior to the June 14 local general elections, IPN reports.
The monitoring covered the period between May 9 and May 17. Council member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca said the irregularities committed the previous election campaigns continue to be committed. “Prime, Publika, Canal 2 and Canal 3 are engaged in political bias for the Democratic Party. It is a situation that recurs. Accent TV is the most politicized one. No other TV channel allots so much airtime to political parties,” she stated. The monitoring report shows Accent TV and Ren Moldova favor especially the Party of Socialists.
BCC member Nicolae Damaschin said things should be brought in order and suggested monitoring daily Prime, Publika, Canal 2 and Canal 3, which ‘permit themselves too much’.
The Council’s chairman Dinu Ciocan spoke about the airtime offered to election runners. He said a balance should be ensured in covering the activities of the ruling parties and of the opposition and extraparliamentary parties as the report revealed a big discrepancy. The opposition and extraparliamentary parties accounted for 77% of the airtime of news programs.
The politicians who appear on TV most often are Dorin Chirtoaca, Vasili Chirtoca, Monica Babuc, Mihail Carlig and Grigore Petrenco, while the parties are the Party of Socialists, the Party of Communists and the Democratic Party.
