A number of persons in the evening of July 24 staged a protest against cruelty to animals in front of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church. Civic activist Erica Zucec welcomed the Moldovan Church’s decision to suspend the deacon from his clerical duties at the St. Dumitru Church in Anenii Noi, but said their actions will not stop here as they must prevent the possible rehabilitation of Gennady Valuța.

The Cahul Court of Appeals issued an arrest warrant against Ilan Shor formally declaring him a fugitive from justice. According to prosecutor Andrei Băieșu, the CCA ruling will now be forwarded to the General Police Inspectorate for further wanted-person proceedings necessary for arresting the leader of the Shor Party.

Moldova needs to open several new consulates and at least one has to be in Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, says President Igor Dodon. During a Radio Moldova talk show, the president said that in Russia, our country has just one embassy in Moscow, and no consulates at all, whereas in Italy Moldova has a couple. Igor Dodon noted that all of Moldova’s incumbent ambassadors are undergoing an evaluation to see who needs to be recalled, because in the last few years some of them “pushed the PDM agenda instead of pursuing the interests of the country”.

Vlad Kulminski, adviser to Prime Minister Maia Sandu, said a nonaggression agreement nonaggression agreement for the upcoming local elections between the Party of Socialists and ACUM Bloc is expected to be signed the next few days. This pact will serve as a sustainable basis for the government’s work during the next year. According to the adviser, the key task of the power is to bring things in Moldova to normality. The justice sector reform could be done afterward. It is very important for the common agenda of the parliamentary majority to continue and for this majority to work honestly.

Prime Minster Maia Sandu and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn signed in Brussels three financing agreements between Moldova and the European Union. In a news conference in Brussels, Commissioner Hahn said that after the European Council made public its conclusions on June 20, the EU took concrete measures to support the implementation by Moldova of the Association Agreement. By this three financing agreements, the EU aims to support the socioeconomic mobilization of Ungheni and Cahul regions. The support envisions work with the local partners for creating jobs and supporting SMEs and civil society.

Former Democratic MP Iurie Bolboceanu, who was sentenced to 14 years in jail for treason and espionage in favor of Russia, said that he and his family were persecuted after he left the party. He received messages warning him not to make statements and not to become involved in politics. “My son was sued and dismissed. My daughter was dismissed on January 1, 2019. I was sentenced to 14 years in jail... Only my wife earns incomes and she managed to keep her job with difficulty. She was and continues to be pressed,” stated the ex-MP. “I thank the Democratic Party and Plahotniuc for replacing the elimination scenario with the conviction scenario in relation to me,” Iurie Bolboceanu stated ironically in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel. Recently, the Appeals Court sent the case of Iurie Bolboceanu back for retrial.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has decided not to start a criminal case in response to a formal complaint filed by Andrei Năstase, Deputy Prime Minister and concurrently Minister of the Interior, who requested that the former Democratic Party president Vlad Plahotniuc be charged with “usurpation” and be stripped of parliamentary immunity as a result.
