The electoral bloc ACUM will present an official list of persons proposed for candidates in single-member constituencies for the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections most probably next week. The candidates are now being examined by the meritocracy commission. The Liberal Democratic Party transmitted the list of candidates who take part in the contest and are assessed by the meritocracy commission. Ex-Liberal heavyweight Valeriu Munteanu, who recently announced his support for ACUM, also sent his CV. The other forces that announced they would support the bloc haven’t yet submitted lists.
Premier Pavel Filip said he will take part in the election campaign prior to the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections and will simultaneously hold office as Premier as the legislation allows for this.
A number of environmental nongovernmental organizations made a call to the Government of the Republic of Moldova not to sign the agreement on the functioning of the Novodnestrovsk energy complex.
The signatories call on the Government to send an official letter to Kiev and ask to fulfil the commitments assumed through the Espoo Convention, warning that Ukraine’s project to extend the hydropower system endangers national security as 80% of the drinking water in Moldova is ensured by the Nistru and, in this case, about two million people in Moldova risk remaining without drinking water in several years.
According to Alecu Reniță, if the hydropower project is implemented, the Nistru will lose all its natural characteristic and will be turned into a chain of cascades and in several decades will become a swamp. Amid climate change, when the sources of drinking water diminish, the value of the Nistru is even more important as there is no other source of drinking water in the region.
In an event organized by the Embassy of Poland, which involved Moldovan and Polish entrepreneurs, Poland’s Ambassador in Chisinau Bartłomiej Zdaniuk encouraged the partners from Poland and Moldova to extend the relations, eventually to invest in the purchase of Polish technologies that are of a high quality and cost less than in Western Europe. He also encouraged joint projects in alternative energy, innovations.
According to official data presented by the Public Services Agency, there are about 100 enterprises with Polish capital in Moldova.
