The Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” created the electoral bloc ACUM. Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase said nothing can prevent the two parties from achieving their great wish to be free and to ensure the rule of law, a functional justice system , a functional economy and better living conditions in Republic of Moldova.

The PAS and PPPDA submitted to the Central Election Commission the set of documents required for having the electoral bloc ACUM registered. Andrei Năstase said all the laws and criteria for forming the bloc were strictly observed. “Even if we had not very positive experiences in the relations with this state body in the past, we are hopeful things will be different this time, everyone realizes the necessity and obligation of obeying the law and of respecting the people’s right to vote,” stated Maia Sandu.

The Liberal Party announced it will take part in the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections as part of the bloc ACUM. After the announcement made by the PL, Valeriu Munteanu, who recently left the party and said he will run in elections together with the bloc ACUM, wrote on his Facebook page that “there is an astronomic discrepancy between the statements proliferated in the public sphere by the president of honor of the PL, the president of the PL and the other leaders of the party about the bloc ACUM and its leaders and the ‘façade’ decision presented awkwardly today.”

The National Unitary Party (PUN) will not run in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019, but will support the electoral bloc ACUM by political statements and by other assistance, except financial one, without negotiating places on the list and fielding candidates in constituencies.

The PUN president Anatol Șalaru told a news conference that the decision was dictated by the danger of a fifth column represented by Igor Dodon and the PSRM taking over, by the resolutions of European institutions that point to the powerful erosion of the rule of law and democracy and the danger of perpetuation of the Plahotniuc-Dodon hybrid regime.

The Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) said its National Political Council decided that the party will not run in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 and in the elections will unconditionally support the electoral bloc ACUM and will call on the members and sympathies of the party to do the same.

A number of NGOs issued a statement, expressing their profound concern about the fully non-transparent way in which the last three Constitutional Court (CC) judges were appointed after being proposed by the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Government and Parliament. Corneliu Gurin, Artur Reshetnikcov and Raisa Apolskii were appointed CC judges for a six-year term in an unprecedented hurry and without respecting any appointment procedure, in conditions that generate suspicions as to possible goals pursued by these appointments.

Never before the European integration  of the Republic of Moldova was so differently or even contradictorily assessed by different sides involved in the process and by national and foreign observers. The existence of two truths in the same space and about the same process was discussed in the public debate entitled “Year 2018: accomplishments, failures and challenges in Moldova’s European integration” that was the 99th installment of the series “Developing political culture through public debates” staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.

According to expert Igor Boțan, the Association Agreement is the most important document that the Republic of Moldova ever signed and there are no areas of the public life - economic, social or of another kind - that would not be covered by this document. This thing was also said by the current leaders of the Party of Socialists. According to them, there is no alternative to Moldova’s European integration. This thesis was announced when Zinaida Grecheanyi was running and when she became Premier. “Very important things happened this year. There was also the message transmitted by Igor Dodon to the world leaders at the Crans Montana Forum. He assured the world leaders that he worked on a project that would prepare the Republic of Moldova for joining the European Union when this problem was included in the agenda. Now in 2018, Parliament could not modify the Constitution to enshrine the European course in it, as the Declaration of Independence provides, and this is regrettable, but explanations exist for such a development,” stated the expert, noting the constitutional framework has been prepared for the European integration since 1991.

He noted the documents say it clearly that the situation concerning democracy in the Republic of Moldova has worsened. On the other hand, these documents note particular progress was made in the socioeconomic sector and this thing should be taken into account when discussing the accomplishments and failures. The two resolutions of the European Parliament said particular results cannot be denied. “For example, things in the banking system and in the customs system were brought in order. The amounts collected by the customs increased and these cannot be denied. On the other hand, the democratic backsliding exists,” he stated.
