Boys are involved in more accidents than girls are, due to their behavioral and psychological characteristics. These are the data given by a reference study of the World Health Organization, presented during an informative session, part of the program for “Prevention of Child Injury”, in which doctors and journalists from Moldova took part, reports Info-Prim Neo. Among the main causes that influence boys’ more often involvement in accidents, stands out their courage to take more risks than girls do. Boys are more optimistic and are less afraid of dangers. “Boys are more impulsive, and the communication of permissions, of the exploratory nature, differs in boys and girls”, mentioned the program’s moderator Kassandra Butu, quoting the study. Medical statistics show that the higher level of fragility as well as their vulnerability to different factors, also determine accidents involving boys, in their first year of life. The same study shows that the most frequent type of child-involving accidents are cars accidents, at which Moldova is ranking 12 out the 39 countries in the study. Moldova is ranking fifth at drowning cases, fire emergencies, and poisonings. In order to prevent such cases, international experts recommend fencing the swimming areas, the training of the population to apply proper resuscitation techniques, as well as using covers for private pools. “For the prevention of poisonings, we must remove toxic agents and buy products in child-proof packaging. The foundation of some toxic screening centers would be welcome, as well as the monitoring of medication and other potentially toxic substances”, Kassandra Butu mentioned. Burns may be prevented by the installation of smoke detectors and by regulating the temperature of hot running water, while for preventing car accidents it is recommended to install special child seats, using the seat-belt and other security accessories, as well as respecting the Law regulations, which aim at preserving the safety of every individual. International statistics show that around 2000 children die daily in accidents caused by their own imprudence.
