Boy falls into icy pond

A boy suffered general hypothermia after falling into a pond in Rose Valley Park in Chisinau. Eufalia Negreata, doctor coordinator at the Emergency Service, told Info-Prim Neo that the 10-year-old boy was walking on a frozen pond in the park when the thin ice broke. The boy fell into the icy water where he spent about 40 minutes until he was recovered. He was admitted to Valentin Ignatenco Hospital with general hypothermia and nervous shock. The same day, 11 city residents suffered brain concussions and 8 acute coronary syndromes. Emergency Service doctors offered first aid to 66 persons who suffered various injuries, to 118 persons who complained of acute respiratory diseases and to 54 persons diagnosed with mumps. Over the past day and night, the Emergency Service doctors recorded a total of 846 calls.
