The Republic of Moldova has won a gold medal and four bronzes at the Junior European Boxing Championships held in Sofia, Bulgaria, IPN reports.
Ilie Argatu became European champion in the 48 kg weight class. He beat Ukraine’s Iahor Kireaus and Romania’s Sali Palapiuc, while in the final defeated Spanish boxer Losano Serrano Rafael.
Bronze medals were won by Alexandr Guranda (66 kg), Andrei Redca (70 kg), Nicolae Burdiuja (+80 kg) and Irina Chubova (54 kg).
In the medal standings, Moldova ranked sixth. The first three spots were occupied by Russia, Ukraine, and Romania.
