Boris Gîlca is stepping down as head of Chisinau’s General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance. This was announced by Gîlca himself in a Facebook post, where he attached his resignation letter and Mayor Ion Ceban’s formal acceptance.

In his post, Boris Gîlca said he importuned the mayor to accept his resignation because of the “disgraceful acts” that targeted him in the past “and those that are being prepared right now”. He promised be back “very soon” with proof and details “about the men and women who have been plotting discrediting actions”.

He went on to thank Mayor Ceban for his trust and for the opportunity to be a part of his team, praising him for being a politician “thanks to whom the truly good deeds will continue in Chisinau and in the Republic of Moldova”.

Previously Gîlca tendered his resignation after being arrested in May on suspicion of embezzling goods from a refugee center. But Mayor Ceban rejected the resignation then, suggesting the investigation was politically motivated.
